عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما قال: «نهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن المُزَابَنَةِ: أن يبيع ثَمَرَ حَائِطِهِ إن كان نَخْلًا: بتَمْرٍ كَيْلًا، وإن كان كَرْمًا: أن يبيعه بزبيب كَيْلًا، أو كان زَرْعًا: أن يبيعه بكَيْلِ طعام، نهى عن ذلك كله».

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the Muzābanah sale, which is to sell something definite for an indefinite amount of its kinds because of the harms this transaction involves, and also because of the uncertainty of the correspondence of the two commodities, which leads to usury. Examples were given to clarify and explain it: to sell fruits in one's garden, if it is a palm garden, for dates by dry measure; and if it is a vineyard, to sell for raisins by dry measure; and if it is any crop to sell for a dry measure of the food of its kind. He forbade all such transactions because of the harm and detriment it involves.

عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما : «أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن الشِّغَارِ».

The basic principle in a marriage contract is that it is not fulfilled unless it includes a dowry for the woman which she receives in return for offering herself to her husband (for sexual enjoyment). For this reason, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited this type of pre-Islamic marriage called Shighār, by which the guardians used to wrong women under their care. They would marry off the women under their care without a dowry which benefits the women. Rather, they used those women for fulfilling their own desires and lusts by giving the woman under their care in marriage to a husband, in return for marrying the woman under the care of that husband without a dowry as well. This type of marriage involves injustice, because the guardians make their womenfolk lawful to men in a way other than that legislated by Allah. Anything of this sort is impermissible and invalid.

عن عبد الله بن عمر- رضي الله عنهما- مرفوعاً: «أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن بيع الثمرة حتى يبدو صلاحها، نهى البائع و المُبْتَاعَ».

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited the selling of fruits until their ripeness appears clearly. He prohibited both the buyer and the seller from conducting this transaction.

عن عبد الله بن عمر- رضي الله عنهما- مرفوعاً: «أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن بيع الوَلاءِ وعن هِبَتِهِ».

Walā', or the bond of loyalty between a master and his freed slave, is similar to the bond of blood relationship between kin, in the sense that it cannot be obtained through selling or gifting. That is why it is not permissible to act freely concerning it via sale or otherwise. It is a kind of tie or bond between the emancipating party and the emancipated slave, by virtue of which the former is entitled to inherit from the latter. Therefore it is prohibited to sell this bond, because it is similar to blood relationship that cannot be removed by someone’s action. That is, if someone were to try to sell his blood relationship with his brother, son or paternal cousin, the sale would be invalid. Likewise, selling the loyalty bond between a master and his freed slave is invalid.

عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن بيع حَبَلِ الحَبَلَةِ ،وكان بيعا يتبايعه أهل الجاهلية، وكان الرجل يبتاع الجَزُورَ إلى أن تُنتِجَ الناقة، ثم تُنتِج التي في بطنها. قيل: إنه كان يبيع الشارف -وهي الكبيرة المسنة- بنتاج الجنين الذي في بطن ناقته.

Habal al-Habalah is among the prohibited sale transactions. The following are the two most common interpretations of it: 1. That it implies suspension. That is, a man sells something in return for a deferred payment, which is due when the she-camel gives birth, then the newborn she-camel matures and gives birth as well. This transaction is prohibited because the time when the payment is due is unknown, given that the term fixed for payment has an effect on determining the price, based on the length of that term. 2. That the transaction means selling something unknown and non-existent. For example, a man sells to another the offspring of the offspring of a pregnant she-camel. This is prohibited because of the substantial harm and uncertainty involved. In fact, it is not certainly known whether the offspring will be male or female, one or two, alive or dead. Furthermore, the time of settling the transaction is also unknown. Hence, this is a type of sale transactions that involves lack of knowledge of all the aspects of the sale. Being so, it results in many harmful consequences and ends in disputes. In general, this sale has four forms: 1. Selling the offspring of a pregnant she-camel. 2. Selling the offspring of the offspring of a pregnant she-camel. This is a contract whose object is unknown. 3. Delaying the sale of the contracted object, meaning that he delays the time when the sold object becomes the property of the buyer until the she-camel gives birth, or until its unborn offspring gives birth. 4. Finalizing the sale but deferring the price to an unknown time.

عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما أنه سمع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: إذا رَفَعَ رَأْسَه مِن الرُّكوع في الركعة الأخيرة مِن الفَجْر: «اللهمَّ الْعَنْ فُلانًا وفُلانًا». بعدَما يقول: «سَمِعَ الله لمن حَمِدَه رَبَّنا ولك الحَمْدُ». فأنزل الله: (لَيْسَ لَكَ مِنَ الأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ ...) الآية. وفي رواية: يَدْعُو على صَفْوَانَ بنِ أُمَيَّةَ، وسُهيْلِ بن عَمْرٍو، والحارث بن هشام، فنَزَلَتْ: (لَيْسَ لَكَ مِنَ الأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ).

In this Hadīth, ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) informs us that when the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) lifted his head from bowing in the final Rak‘ah of the Fajr prayer and after saying: "Allah hears those who praise Him," he made a strong invocation against some leaders of the polytheists who caused him harm on the Day of Uhud, and he would perhaps mention them by name, and invoke Allah's curse upon them by their names. So Allah sent down a verse upon him that included reproach and forbade him from doing that: {Not for you (O Muhammad) is the decision} [Sūrat āl-‘Imrān: 128]. That was due to Allah's prior knowledge that they would accept Islam and become good Muslims afterwards.

عن عبد الله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا استَوَى على بَعِيره خارجًا إلى سَفَر، كَبَّرَ ثلاثا، ثم قال: «سبحان الذي سخَّر لنا هذا وما كُنَّا له مُقْرِنِينَ وإنَّا إلى ربِّنا لـمُنْقَلِبُون، اللهم إنَّا نَسْأَلُك في سفرنا هذا البِرَّ والتَّقْوَى، ومن العمل ما تَرْضَى، اللهم هَوِّنْ علينا سفرنا هذا واطْوِ عنا بُعْدَه، اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر، والخليفة في الأهل، اللهم إني أعوذ بك مِن وَعْثَاء السفر، وكآبة الـمَنْظر، وسوء الـمُنْقَلَب في المال والأهل والولد». وإذا رجع قالهن. وزاد فيهن «آيبون تائبون عابدون لِربنا حامدون». وفي رواية: كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا قَفَل من الحج أو العمرة، كلما أَوْفَى على ثَنِيَّة أو فَدْفَدٍ كَبَّرَ ثلاثا، ثم قال: «لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، له الملك وله الحمد، وهو على كل شيء قدير، آيِبون، تائبون، عابدون، ساجدون، لربنا حامدون، صدَق الله وَعْدَه، ونصَر عَبْدَه، وهزَم الأحزابَ وحده». وفي لفظ: إذا قَفَل من الجيوش أو السَّرايا أو الحج أو العمرة.

Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) informs us in this Hadīth that whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) prepared to travel and mounted his ride, he would proclaim the greatness of Allah and say this supplication, which involves a number of sublime meanings, one of which is declaring Allah, the Almighty, far exalted above any need or deficiency. It also expresses a person's appreciation for the favors of Allah. Moreover, the Hadīth asserts one's complete lack of might and power, and his admission that he will return to Allah, the Almighty. Then, it comprises invocation to Allah to bestow His favors and grace and to endow the supplicant with piety and guide him to those deeds that please Him and that He accepts. Also in the Hadīth, the supplicant relies on Allah, the Almighty, and leaves all affairs to Him. Allah, the Almighty, is also implored to preserve the supplicant and his relatives and to ease the hardship of traveling and provide refuge from its evil and harm, like returning and seeing anything unpleasant in his family, property, or children. In the other narration, Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) returned from a trip, he would say the above-mentioned supplication and make this addition: We are those who return; those who repent; those who worship; and those who praise our Lord – grateful to Him for our safe return. Whenever the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stood on a high place, he would proclaim the greatness of Allah – thus standing humble before His majesty and power – and say: “there is no god but Allah, Who has no partner”, acknowledging the uniqueness and Oneness of Allah in His divinity, lordship, and names and attributes, and that He supports His close servants and allies and makes them victorious.

عن عبدالله بن عمر رضي الله عنهما أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عامل أهل خيبر بِشَطْرِ ما يخرج منها من ثَمَرٍ أو زرع.

Khaybar is a farming town inhabited by a group of the Jews. After the conquest of Khaybar on the seventh year of Hijrah, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) divided and distributed its lands and farms among the victorious Muslims. Muslims were busy with fighting in the cause of Allah and calling people to Islam and had no time for cultivation. The Jews of Khaybar, however, were more knowledgeable about cultivation because of their long years of experience in farming. For this reason, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) made an agreement with the Jews to cultivate the land and irrigate the trees. They would receive half of the produce of its fruits and crops as a payment for their labor, while the Muslims would receive the other half for being the land owners.
