You will see your Lord as you see this moon, you will not have any difficulty in seeing Him

Narrator in the source: Jarīr ibn ‘Abdullah

Jarīr ibn ‘Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We were in the presence of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he looked at the moon when it was full, and he said: "You will see your Lord as you see this moon, you will not have any difficulty in seeing Him. So if you are able to not be overcome in observing a prayer before sunrise (the Fajr) and a prayer before sunset (the ‘Asr), then do so." Then, he recited: "{And glorify the praise of your Lord before sunrise and before sunset.}"

Understand this hadith

One night, the Companions were in the presence of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he looked at the full moon - on the 14th night of the lunar month - and said: The believers will see their Lord in the real sense clearly with their own eyes. They will not cause a crowd to one another, get tired, or experience hardship when seeing their Almighty Lord. Then, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you are able to get over whatever distracts you from observing the Fajr and ‘Asr prayers, then do so and observe them fully in their due times in a congregation, for this is one of the causes that lead to looking at the Countenance of Allah Almighty. Then, he (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) recited the verse that reads: {And glorify the praise of your Lord before sunrise and before sunset.}

Lessons from the hadith
  • Glad tidings to the believers that they will see Allah Almighty in Paradise.
  • Assertion, encouragement, and giving examples are among the methods of Da‘wah.

Narrator in the source: Sohaib reported: The Messenger of Allah

Sohaib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the dwellers of Paradise enter Paradise, he said: Allah Almighty will say: Do you want Me to give you anything more? They will say: Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not made us enter Paradise and saved us from Hellfire? He said: He will then lift the veil, and out of all the things they are given, nothing will be dearer to them than looking at their Almighty Lord."

Understand this hadith

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) informs that when the dwellers of Paradise enter Paradise, Allah Almighty will say to them: Do you want Me to give you anything more? All the dwellers of Paradise will say: Have You not brightened our faces? Have You not made us enter Paradise and saved us from Hellfire? Allah will, then, remove and lift the veil, and His veil is Light, and out of all the things they are given, nothing will be dearer to them than looking at their Almighty Lord.

Lessons from the hadith
  • The veil will be lifted from the dwellers of Paradise, and they will, thus, see their Lord, whereas the disbelievers will be deprived of this.
  • The greatest bliss in Paradise is that the believers see their Lord.
  • All the dwellers of Paradise will see their Almighty Lord regardless of their different ranks.
  • The grace that Allah bestows upon the believers by admitting them to Paradise.
  • The importance of hastening to Paradise through offering righteous deeds and obeying Allah Almighty and His Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him).

Two gardens, the utensils and the contents of which are of silver; two other gardens, the utensils and the contents of which are of gold. Nothing will prevent people from looking at their Lord except the veil of pride over His Face in the Garden of Eden

Abu Mūsa al-Ash‘ari (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two gardens, the utensils and the contents of which are of silver; two other gardens, the utensils and the contents of which are of gold. عن أبي موسى الأشعري رضي الله عنه مرفوعاً: «جَنَّتانِ مِن فِضَّةٍ آنِيَتُهما، وما فيهما، وجَنَّتانِ مِن ذَهَبٍ آنِيَتُهما، وما فيهما، وما بين القومِ وبين أنْ ينظروا إلى ربِّهم إلَّا رِداءُ الكِبْرِياءُ على وجهِه في جَنَّة عَدْنٍ».
Understand this hadith

This Hadīth indicates the different degrees and levels in Paradise; some of which are higher than others literally and metaphorically. While some parts are built in gold, others will be in silver. Granted, gold is the most valuable metal for those addressed with the Qur'an when it was revealed. It is possible that Paradise has things more precious than gold, because Allah, the Almighty, said that Paradise contains things that have never been seen, heard of, or imagined. At the beginning of some narrations of this Hadīth, it is mentioned: “The gardens of Firdaus are four: two of gold...” The rest of the Hadīth indicates that nothing will prevent people from looking at their Lord except the veil of pride over His Face in the Garden of Eden. This is a clear indication that people will see Allah. If Allah wants to bless them with more honor, He will lift the veil of divine pride from His face to let them see Him. Followers of the Sunnah affirm that Allah has a veil of pride, and that the believers will see their Lord in Paradise, without explaining how, drawing similarities, and without distorting the texts or excluding their indications. Likewise, they affirm that Allah has a face that fits His majesty. It is not permissible to interpret any of these concepts, or deviate them from their apparent indications. This is the belief of the righteous predecessors.
