Understand this hadith

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) commands those who perform the prayer to straighten their rows, not being forward or backward from the row, and that straightening the rows is part of the completion and perfection of the prayer, whereas the crookedness of the row is a flaw and deficiency in the prayer.

Lessons from the hadith
  • Permissibility of paying attention to whatever leads to perfecting the prayer and keeps it far from deficiency.
  • Wisdom of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) in teaching as he joined the ruling with its cause to clarify the rationale behind the legislation and encourage people to comply.

When they came to her, she wept. They said to her: "What makes you weep? Do you not know that what is with Allah is better for the Messenger of Allah?" Understand this hadith

The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were the most eager of people to follow the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) in every aspect. They would even walk in the same path that he used to walk in, sit in the same places he used to sit in and do everything they knew he used to do. This Hadīth is a proof of that, as Abu Bakr and ‘Umar visited a woman whom the Messenger of Allah (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit. They visited her only because of this. When they arrived at her home, she began to weep. They said to her why are you weeping? Do you not know that what Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He, has prepared for His Messenger is better than this world? She replied: I do not weep because of that, but rather because the revelation has ceased. This is because when the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, the revelation stopped, as there is no revelation after him. That is why Allah perfected the Shariah before he passed away. Allah, the Almighty, says: {This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion} [Al-Mā‘idah: 3]. Upon hearing her words, Abu Bakr and ‘Umar started weeping as well because she reminded them of what they had forgotten.

A Bedouin came and urinated in a corner of the mosque

Narrator in the source: Anas

Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a Bedouin came and urinated in a corner of the mosque. So, the people rebuked him. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) stopped them and when he finished urinating, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a bucket of water should be poured over that place, and they did so.

Understand this hadith

Harshness and ignorance are natural habits of the Bedouins because they live in isolation from learning what Allah, the Almighty, revealed unto His Messenger (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). Once, while the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) was with his Companions in the mosque, a Bedouin entered and urinated in one corner of the mosque assuming it was an open space. His action offended the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), due to the mosque's sanctity. As a result, they rebuked him while he was urinating. Knowing the habits of the Bedouins, however, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) who was sent with ease and glad tidings ordered them to stop rebuking him, otherwise he would urinate on a larger spot in the mosque, or make his clothes impure, and to avoid harm had he been interrupted during passing urine. Moreover, he would be more inclined that way to accept the advice of the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) when he advises him. He ordered them to purify the place where he urinated by pouring a bucket of water over it.

Jarīr ibn ‘Abdullāh al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) went out for a journey, in which he used to serve his companions, who were some men of the Ansār. Among them was Anas ibn Mālik, who was younger than Jarīr. It was said to him: "How do you serve them when you are a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessing be upon him?!" Jarīr replied: "I saw the Ansār do something with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) after which I took an oath upon myself that I would never accompany anyone of them without serving him." This is a form of honoring those who honor the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him). In fact, honoring and respecting a man's companions is part of honoring and respecting the man himself. That is why Jarīr regarded that honoring those people is part of honoring the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him).

Then, he called for a barber to shave his head. He told the barber to start with the right side of his head, and he started from there. Then he called Abu Talhah al-Ansāri and gave him the hair that was shaved off his right side. Then, he shaved the remainder of his head and gave the hair to Abu Talhah, and said: "Distribute it among the people!" He did it. Some people received one hair, some two, and some more than that. This was to seek blessings in his hair. Such act is permissible but exclusive to Prophet Muhammad's belongings.

Understand this hadith

A Bedouin man, among the dwellers of the desert, asked the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about the time of the Hour. The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: What righteous deeds have you prepared for it? The questioner said: I have not prepared much deeds for it, except that I love Allah and His Messenger. He did not mention any other act of worship, be it by the heart, body, or property, for these are all branches of love dependent on it, and because true love motivates a person to strive to do righteous deeds. Thereupon, the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: You will be with whom you love in Paradise. The Prophet's Companions greatly rejoiced at this good news. Then, Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) informed that he loved the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and Abu Bakr and ‘Umar and hoped he would be with them, even though his deeds were not like their deeds.

Lessons from the hadith
  • The Hadīth demonstrates the Prophet's wisdom through his reply to the questioner. He guided him to what concerns him and helps him attain salvation, namely to get prepared for the Hereafter by beneficial and pious deeds.
  • Allah Almighty has kept knowledge of the Hour hidden from the people so that everyone will always be ready and prepared for meeting Allah.
  • It highlights the merit of loving Allah and His Messenger and the righteous believers and warns of loving the polytheists.
  • The Prophet's statement "You will be with whom you love" does not mean that they will be equal in rank and status. The meaning is that they will be in Paradise and able to see each other, even if the distance between them is great.
  • The Hadīth directs a Muslim to preoccupy himself with things that are better and more beneficial for him and refrain from asking about things that bring him no benefit.

Understand this hadith

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that moderation should be observed in prostration, in such a way that the one praying adopts a good posture in prostration, with his hands on the ground and his forearms lifted and kept away from his sides. This is because such a posture indicates the energy and eagerness required in prayer, and also because this good posture allows all the prostrating organs to have their share in worship. He forbade spreading the forearms in prostration because it is evidence of laziness and boredom, and it also constitutes imitating the dog, which is an improper imitation.

Once the one who was working complained to the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) about his brother who did not work. So, he told him soothingly that perhaps his financial support of his brother was the reason that sustenance had been made easy for him to attain.
