Story chaptersIdris: truthfulness, prophethood and patience
01Idris: truthfulness, prophethood and patience

Our knowledge of Idris, peace be upon him, begins with the description Allah gives him in Surah Maryam: a man of truth and a prophet. The passage opens with his character, not a city or a battle. Allah praises his truthfulness even though the Quran does not describe his daily life or name his people.
Surah Al-Anbiya mentions Idris with Ismail and Dhul-Kifl, describing their patience, righteousness and admission into Allah’s mercy. These are the qualities the texts preserve: truthfulness, prophethood, patience, righteousness and honour. Popular accounts of his occupation, travels and death are not presented here as established facts.
The next verse says that Allah raised him to a high station. We affirm that honour without inventing an account of how it happened. The established meaning is itself sufficient: Allah honours whom He wills among His servants.
The Quran does not name Idris’s people, homeland or years of preaching. We therefore cannot construct a detailed itinerary through cities and events for which we have no evidence. The revealed accounts establish his rank and qualities; the Sunnah adds his meeting with Muhammad ﷺ during the Ascension.
02Meeting the Prophet ﷺ in the fourth heaven

An authentic account of the Ascension describes Muhammad ﷺ reaching the fourth heaven with Jibril, meeting Idris and greeting him. Idris welcomed him as a brother and a prophet. This adds an established event to the Quranic account without inventing his appearance or the surroundings.
The meeting took place as Muhammad ﷺ travelled through the heavens with Jibril, who introduced Idris to him. They exchanged greetings. This authentic report describes that encounter; it does not, by itself, settle how Idris reached heaven or the circumstances of his death.
The established picture brings together truthfulness and prophethood, patience and righteousness, honour from Allah, and a meeting recorded in the Sunnah. His occupation, students’ names, journeys and dates remain outside this account unless supported by reliable evidence.
