The Quran expressly identifies Ilyas as a messenger. He asked his people whether they would fear Allah, calling upon Baal while abandoning worship of Allah, the Best of Creators.

He reminded them that Allah was their Lord and the Lord of their ancestors. Worshipping Him alone is a return to humanity’s Lord, not a rejection of its true foundation.

His people rejected him. Allah warned that they would be brought to punishment, except His sincere believing servants. The passage does not describe a particular worldly punishment or count the believers.

Allah preserved honourable remembrance and peace for Ilyas, praised his faith and rewarded his goodness. These are the features the Quran establishes.

The verses establish his prophethood, call to worship Allah alone, his people’s rejection and the exception for sincere servants. A small number of scenes does not justify adding unsupported accounts.

Reports about his location, detailed ancestry and contemporary kings vary in reliability. They can be studied as historical reports, without treating them as established articles of belief.
