Story chaptersDhul-Kifl: what is known and what is disputed
01Dhul-Kifl: what is known and what is disputed

Allah mentions Dhul-Kifl alongside Ismail and Idris, describing their patience and admission into His mercy among the righteous. These verses do not recount his birth, people or a particular trial.
Few details do not create a gap that must be filled with any available tale. Allah’s praise of patience, righteousness and mercy already gives us qualities to follow.
He is mentioned again with Ismail and Al-Yasa among the excellent. The passages establish patience, righteousness and goodness.
These meanings can form a complete lesson. A beneficial account does not require a long biography for every person.
Many commentators considered him a prophet because he appears alongside prophets in a passage of praise. Others regarded him as a righteous man who undertook responsibility for his people and judged justly.
His prophethood is disputed, with many commentators favouring that he was a prophet. This difference does not undermine the qualities the Quran explicitly affirms.
