Understand this hadith

The Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) took a silk garment or a piece of it in his left hand and took gold, jewelry or something similar, in his right hand. Then, he said: Silk and gold are forbidden for men to wear. As for women, they are permissible for them.

Lessons from the hadith
  • As-Sindi said: 'Forbidden' refers to its use as a garment. Otherwise, it is permissible for everyone to use it in terms of disposal, spending, and selling. Moreover, it is forbidden for everyone to make utensils of gold and use them.
  • The Islamic Shariah provides broad space for women due to their need for adornment and the like.
